What if you could use popular DeFi apps on other blockchains without exposing your wallet to the world? That is the promise of Nightmode, which the Midnight team detailed in an October 20, 2026 post.

The Problem With Public Ledgers

On most blockchains, anyone can see your balances, trades and strategies. That invites front running bots, which spot your pending trades and jump ahead of them, and it exposes businesses' sensitive operations.

How Nightmode Works

Nightmode connects Midnight to public blockchains using multi party computation (MPC) vault contracts. MPC is a method where several parties jointly control a key, so no single party can act alone. Each vault is governed by a set of seven private cryptographic signatures on the native chain.

  • You deposit an asset into a vault on its home chain. The asset never leaves that chain.

  • You receive a matching shielded balance in a Multi Chain Shielded pool on Midnight.

  • You can trade or stake that private balance.

  • When you are done, you burn the tokens and reclaim your original asset.

Importantly, there is no traditional bridge, the kind of cross chain tool that has been a frequent target for hackers.

What You Can Do With It

The post names shielded trading on Uniswap, PancakeSwap and CoW Swap, confidential lending on Aave and Stella Labs, private Lido liquid staking, institutional payroll and vendor payments, and real world asset settlement through Assetize. On a DEX like Uniswap, trade values may be visible, but your identity is not linked to the swap.

Compliance is built in through selective disclosure, so authorized auditors can verify activity without exposing users publicly. Fees are covered by DUST, generated by holding NIGHT, so you do not spend your assets on gas.

Expanding Further

Partner SIG Network has extended its integration to Solana, and TRON is the next Nightmode target, with deployment scheduled for December 2026, according to the Midnight Foundation.
